GRAFFITI LIFESPAN

From West Oakland, the fastest route to the Bay Bridge is via Grand Avenue.  Along this stretch of road, you will see all types of graffiti.

From April 3, 2011 to August 3, 2012, I took a picture when new graffiti was added or removed from this particular wall on Grand Avenue, to document the lifespan of graffiti.

Equally interesting are the changes in the central tree, and the various people, cars and taco trucks that make an appearance. Oftentimes I rode my bike to the location and placed it up against the sign on the left side of the frame.

Here’s a photo showing the street sign for Grand Ave. and the tree looking very different.

My favorite photos were with workers painting over the graffiti (this one was from June 8th, 2012).
